Since our involvement with Aquatels the carp have flourished. At the start the ceiling weight seemed to be around 27/28lb. In 2006 the mirror known as cluster came out at 42lb 2oz, but unfortunately was found dead this year following spawning. Of the other target fish the sergeant common 38lb, the peach common 36lb, the blue ghostie 36lb and a new ghostie made it to just over 30lb which we have named Dave, the Drop Scale Linear came out 30lb 8oz and a new common has come through which made 30lb 2oz christened ‘shoulders’. The fish known as jays common came out this spring at 32lb and add to these a mirror that has never been to the bank, but is sometimes seen with the peach and is of equal size and another ghostie is often seen with the blue ghostie that is around the same size and there is also a bronze coloured ghostie we see around the small island that is in the 35lb bracket. The average size of the carp in Aquatels in the spring and autumn is well into 20lb's and only drops below this figure after spawning. We put this down to two factors. The first is we only control the weed where needed and do not obliterate it as some waters do and the second is bait. The carp in 'aqqies' like a bit of food and since we encouraged anglers to 'put a bit in' weights have rocketed. As we always keep large amounts of weed the carp can be often found in the margins and the majority of captures come within 30 yards of the edge.

Fairly hard water, I have fished the specimen lake a lot of times, and often blanked, this is not an easy water to find fish although if there are not many anglers around you can catch the odd fish stalking.
There is also two more lakes I have not fished plus a section of the Cherwell holding the odd big carp and some big chub.

Plantations Lakes opened in 1994. The complex has three lakes open at the moment and all are all heavily stocked with a wide variety of coarse fish. The coarse and carp lakes were dug in the summer of 1994 and opened for fishing the following November. The match or horseshoe lake as it is also known was dug in the autumn of 1999 and opened for fishing in February 2000.
